(Showbiz) Ras Adiba cherishes her ability to 'stand' even for a while

KUALA LUMPUR: Two years ago, veteran ntv7 newscaster Ras Adiba Radzi's wish to "stand up" even if for a few minutes, finally came true.

She was given a special wheelchair, which enables her to stand to present the news “like any other able-bodied Malaysian”.

Describing the wheelchair as her "trusty friend", Ras Adiba, 49, recently took to Instagram to share with her followers that it was "the fulfilment of her dream and prayer for the last five years".

"After being unable to walk for a long time, I felt the urge to stand up even though for a short moment. In early 2016, this miraculous gift finally came. Thank you, God!"

Netizens were delighted that the 49-year-old newscaster was getting along great with her "friend", and many of them encouraged her to continue to stay strong and persevere through adversity.

“Ras Adiba is truly an inspiration. She never gives up in the face of challenges, and in fact faces them with resilience,” said Danyqa.

“Kak Ras is my role model, she’s strong in facing up to hardship, and she’s inspired me to face all challenges that come my way,” said Aniza.

Ras Adiba’s paralysis began with a car accident in 1995 in which she suffered a back injury. Six years later, she was assaulted by a group of men outside her house and a year later, she fell down at home and ended up on a wheelchair.

Since then she has undergone physiotherapy, and participated in shooting events including the Para Asean Games 2015 in Singapore.
