#Showbiz: 'Paskal' to penetrate China and Turkey next month

KUALA LUMPUR: Action film Paskal, which depicts the story of the Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) Pasukan Khas Laut or Paskal, will be screened in China and Turkey end of next month.

In a recent news report, its director Adrian Teh said that the film would first head to Singapore and Brunei, two weeks after its premiere here on Sept 27.

“The objective of this film is to throw light on the existence of this special elite team whose mission is to protect Malaysian waters from any threats.

“Once Paskal goes abroad, non-Malaysians will get to see Malaysia’s advantage, since the film also showcases the element of unity among the many races that make up the Paskal team. Their close friendship is akin to kinship,” he said after the film’s preview here yesterday.

The film, which costs almost RM10 million to make, stars Hairul Azreen, Ammar Alfian, Henley Hii, Taufiq Hanafi, Gambit Saifullah, Hafizul Kamal and Theeban G.

“I hope Paskal will give audiences something different for a change as 50 per cent of the storyline is inspired from real operations.

“It took me two years to expand the idea and a further seven months to do research and obtain RMN’s approval before the script can be produced,” he said.

Taken from a real life story, Paskal portrays the success of the elite forces while on a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Angola in 1998, apart from the mission to recapture the merchant ship MT Bung Laurel from pirates in the Gulf of Aden in 2011.
