#Showbiz: Rahimah Rahim to stage her first solo concert in KL

KUALA LUMPUR: Legendary Singaporean singer Rahimah Rahim is bringing over her My Life, My Art solo concert onto our shores come April 13.

The concert, to be held at Auditorium Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, is a celebration of life and art, through songs that hold a special significance for her.

What is interesting to note is Rahimah is not taking a cent for her performance at the concert.

“I don’t want payment for my show here. Even if the organisers put aside a small token, I will return it.

“While there’s no denying one needs money for everything, it is definitely not the be-all and end-all. Well, for me, at least,” she said.

Concert organisers, Giant Steps Event & Entertainment, has been informed of her intention to perform here for free.

“After all, proceeds from ticket sales will be channeled towards charity,” said Rahimah when met at a press conference to announce her KL solo concert at Restoran Rebung at Perdana Botanical Garden here today.

The concert’s main objective is to raise funds for the Perlis Girl Guides Association to enable it to run its annual activities.

Rahimah, 64, who has a fan base in Malaysia said: “After singing for almost five decades, it’s time I start giving back to the society. And since I cannot afford to offer monetary contribution, what I can do is to perform for free,” says Rahimah.

“At this age, amassing material wealth is not my priority,” said the singer of Gadis Dan Bunga and Hati Yang Rapuh.

Joining Rahimah on stage at her My Life, My Art concert is her sister, singer Rozie Rahim, and our very own Khai Bahar as guest performers.
