#Showbiz: 'So easy to get turned on' - Adibah Noor criticises religious teacher who justifies rape

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer, actress and television host Adibah Noor believes in calling a spade a spade, when dealing with prejudiced people.

The Oh My English star has criticised a religious teacher who made seemingly sexist remarks in a video which went viral.

The religious teacher claimed that women who did not cover their modesty well would only arouse men’s sexual desires, and this resulted in the occurrence of crimes such as rape and sexual harrassment as well as adultery.

He reportedly said: “Women who don’t cover their ‘aurat’ get sexually harrassed because they ‘feast’ the eyes of men. Many don’t cover their ‘aurat’ perfectly, they don’t wear loose baju kurung. When men see you, they get aroused, and here is where the crimes of sexual harrassment and rape, and adultery happen.”

Adibah, 48, was among many Netizens who slammed the teacher for his sexist speech.

In a tweet, she said: “So easy for you to get turned on. His example shows he has been feeding his eyes all this while!”

Fellow Netizen Aqem agreed. He said: “So sad that Malaysian Muslims get terrible teachers as this man. He’s justifying the sins of rape and sexual harrassment and is the real plague to our beautiful religion.”

Atiqah said: “So many prejudiced sounding ‘preacher men’ these days. They fuel Islamophobia!”

Hasyimah said: “Blaming the victim as usual. Rape and sexual harrassment are crimes. No excuse! Noting can justify crimes!”
