KUALA LUMPUR: Chris Hemsworth’s Asgardian thunder god, Thor, will soon go down as the Marvel Comic Universe (MCU) hero with the most number of solo cinematic adventures.
After his last movie Thor: Ragnarok grossed US$854 million (RM3,515 million) in the United States, Hemsworth will return in Thor 4, which is set for release in two years’ time.
The Hollywood Reporter reported today that New Zealand director Taika Waititi, who wrote and directed the 2017 blockbuster Thor: Ragnarok, had also come on board the Asgardian’s next adventure.
Waititi, 43, was earlier known for directing independent films such as the romantic comedy Eagle Vs. Shark and 2010’s Boy, which was nominated for the Grand Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
His 2004 short film Two Cars, One Night was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short.
Waititi co-wrote, co-produced and co-directed the 2014 vampire mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows, which was adapted into a hit FX series of the same name.
His next film project is a dark comedy drama Jojo Rabbit which is due in cinemas in October.
The Oscar-nominated director who is also an actor and comedian, earned praise from MCU fans for his injection of a healthy dose of intelligent humour into Thor’s world in Ragnarok.
Thor’s last appearance was in Avengers: Endgame last April, and at the end of the movie he was seen joining his MCU allies the Guardians Of The Galaxy, and appointing Valkyrie as the new ruler of Asgard.
Australian actor Hemsworth, 35, starred as Thor in Thor (2011) The Avengers (2012), Thor: The Dark World (2013), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Doctor Strange (2016), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
