KUALA LUMPUR: A Fly FM listener received an unexpected balik kampung gift when comedian and radio announcer Douglas Lim said that the station would pay for her family's flight tickets.
A mother of four named Alyaa had called Fly FM during the Douglas Lim & Ili In The Morning show on Tuesday to share her story of not being able to return to her hometown even though the interstate travel ban had recently been lifted.
Apparently, the woman and her family had not been back to their hometown of Miri in Sarawak for the past six years due to the expensive flight tickets.
Speaking on air, Alyaa who is currently a housewife explained that they used to sell putu bambu but had to shut down the business due to the MCO.
She added that although her husband had just started on a new job, he was just settling into it and would not be able to afford paying about RM3,000 for the entire family's flight tickets.
Lim then told Alyaa that Fly FM would be sponsoring her family to return to Miri.
"No, we are serious. It is not a joke. I have spoken to the people here and they have all agreed.
"We will be sending you and your family back to Miri so you can visit them.
"It's been six years. I don't know how it is like to be away from family for so long," he said.
Lim added: "I'm sure it must have been tough. But we want you and your family to have this opportunity. States are open and you deserve to be back in Miri."
A speechless Alyaa explained that her sister in Miri would be giving birth next month.
The hosts of the show also called up Alyaa's mother to relay the good news that her daughter in Kuala Lumpur would finally be coming home.
Apparently, Alyaa's third and fourth children have not been to Miri yet.
She later expressed her joy at receiving the unexpected gift and her excitement of being able to balik kampung in a post on her IG account.
"Thank you so much, Fly FM. You made my day today," she said.
