KUALA LUMPUR: Legendary Bollywood playback singer Lata Mangeshkar who recently died at the age of 92 never got married.
According to Times of India, she had talked about the matter in an old interview.
"People ask why I never married. To that I say that God gave me a job to do and I'm very satisfied with my work.
"Yes, like everyone else, I do have my moments of sorrow. But my sorrow is very temporary.
"What I cannot bear is to see other people suffering. I feel a sense of joy by helping such people," she said.
Although the extremely talented yet soft-spoken performer would bring happiness to countless music and film lovers during her lifetime, she experienced a tragic turn when it came to matters of the heart.
According to www.bollywoodshaadis.com, she fell in love with her brother Hridaynath's friend, Raj Singh Dungarpur, who was a member of the royal family and first-class cricketer.

Raj, who had great respect for his father, abided by his wish but made a vow to remain single for the rest of his life.
The ill-fated couple carried on being friends till his death in 2009 at the age of 73 due to Alzheimer's disease.
