KUALA LUMPUR: ASP Razlan, one of the heroes of long-running police drama series Gerak Khas, is a high-achiever on screen, and his success seems to have rubbed off on his real-life daughter.
Veteran actor Zulkifli Ismail, 60, who plays ASP Razlan, is the proud father of 30-year-old Dr Zulfati Izazi Zulkifli who holds a doctorate of philosophy in linguistics and is a lecturer in South Korea.
Zulfati works at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, South Korea and completed her doctorate at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Gelugor, Penang last year.
She had earlier pursued a linguistics degree course at USM from 2015 to 2017.
"I didn't choose to work in Korea, but shortly after graduating from my doctorate programme, my university lecturers and supervisors encouraged me to take up an offer to teach Malay in that country," said Zulfati in a news report today.
"I thought it was great, and it came at just the right time in my life, so I immediately said yes."
Zulfati had always been interested in languages when she was a pre-teen, and her parents encouraged her to take up linguistics in a local university.
Zulfati is married to her fellow USM graduate and lecturer Dr Md Yushalify Misro, and they tied the knot early this year.
He is a graduate in mathematics and teaches at Shizuoka University in Japan.
