#Showbiz: AXN Asia re-discovering Taiwan's Raknus Selu Trail

KUALA LUMPUR: The world premiere of Secrets of the Raknus Selu Trail, an original cultural adventure production commissioned by Taiwan's Hakka Affairs Council is set for next month.

In a press statement today, AXN Asia (owned by KC Global Media) announced that the programme would premier on AXN channel on Sept 27 across Asia and its worldwide release on AXN Asia's YouTube channel on the following day.

Malaysians can also discover deeper insights of the adventure through the global release of a four-part podcast series of the same title on Sept 27 across leading audio streaming platforms such as Spotify, Astro Radio's SYOK app and Apple Podcast.

The one-hour Docutainment Special chronicles the Hakka trail of Taiwan's most iconic exports, while paying homage to the Hakka heritage that is now seeing a cultural revival with a new generation of young Hakkas across Taiwan.

Derek Wong, the vice president and head for production and creative for KC Global Media shared that through this partnership with Taiwan's Hakka Affairs Council, they will be able to spread and educate Malaysians on the historical culture and heritage of the Hakka community.

"Being chosen to produce and document Taiwan's most iconic tourist destination has been a privilege and a humbling experience which reinforces our brand as a regional creative and original production force as we share the heart and soul of the Hakka people.

"Through this docutainment, we offer a holistic learning experience which combines the elements of documentary filmmaking with an entertainment edge for our Malaysian audiences through the visual, online and audio space, and look forward to producing more of such meaningful projects in future," he said.

Hosted by British photographer, Chris Stowers and award-winning Taiwanese food and travel writer Danny Wen Shi-Kai, the one-hour episode special takes viewers through Wen's ancestral family's journey in the forgotten paths of the iconic Raknus Selu Trail, as they uncover intricate customs and stories of the Hakka heritage which reveals the culture's impact of modern Taiwan, and a journey into the core of the Asian instinct for community and tradition to surpass time.

The Raknus Selu Trail is Taiwan's very firstlong-distance trail network, spanning over 200km and covering cities like Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli and Taichung.

Malaysians can catch the Docutainment Special on AXN Asia via Astro Channel 701 and Unifi TV Channel 453 on Sept 27.
