KUALA LUMPUR: "Dear friends, please be careful of a man who's been pretending to be me and asking for money via WhatsApp messages," says veteran singer Datuk DJ Dave.
In a statement yesterday, the 74-year-old artiste said that the scammer had been using the same photo he used as the profile photo on his WhatsApp account, and had approached his contacts to "borrow" some cash.
"This morning alone, I had received more than 100 calls from friends and contacts who'd almost fallen prey to this scammer," said Dave, who had already lodged a police report regarding the matter.
Dave added that he had heard cases like this happening to his friends before and now it was happening to him, making him instantaneously change the photo on his Whatsapp profile.
"To those who still get such a message from someone claiming to be me, and asking for a loan, please get in touch with me or my manager directly."
