#Showbiz: 'Bakara' collects RM26 million in 11 days

KUALA LUMPUR: Action film Malbatt: Misi Bakara now has RM26 million takings at the box office, 11 days after its Aug 24 premiere.

The film's executive producer, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) Movies' chief operating officer Tung Yow Kong said that his company was thankful to viewers for their continuous support of the patriotic film.

"Bakara is still going strong in the Top 3 of our film charts after three weeks," he said in an interview with Harian Metro Online yesterday.

"We will continue screening it as long as it has public support."

He also said that the film's producers might consider bonus payments to the cast and crew.

"At the moment we want to concentrate on keeping up the momentum for the film which is screened in 160 cinemas in Malaysia and Brunei."

Bakara, directed by Adrian Teh stars Bront Palarae, Shaheizy Sam, Hairul Azreen, Zahiril Adzim, Iedil Dzuhrie Alaudin, Adlin Aman Ramlie, Fauzi Nawawi, Tony Eusoff, Syazwan Zulkifli, Dafi Ismail Sabri, Taufiq Hanafi, Dini Schatzmann, Gambit Saifullah and Safwan Nazri among others.

It is based on the true story of Malaysia's United Nations peacekeeping troops who saved the lives of American soldiers who were trapped by Somali militias at Bakara market in Mogadishu during the 1993 civil war in Somalia.
