#Showbiz: 'They have yet to give me a PPR home' — Zaiton Sameon

KUALA LUMPUR: Last November, veteran singer Zaiton Sameon, 67, was given an OKU Card, which is a registration of Persons with Disabilities by the Social Welfare Department(JKM).

The card entitles her to a People's Housing Project (PPR) home in the federal capital.

Unfortunately, she has yet to hear from them after 10 months.

"I have written to them to apply for a PPR home anywhere in KL. Sadly, they have yet to give me a response," said Zaiton in a news report yesterday.

"Times are bad, I haven't had singing engagements for sometime and I've even had to halt my rendang business due to financial difficulties and rising costs of ingredients."

Zaiton said that she desperately needed monthly financial aid from the department, as an underprivileged person with disabilities.

"I would be very grateful to JKM if they could show me the correct procedures to apply for financial assistance and a PPR home."

The singer is currently staying with her adopted daughter, Sikah Ismail, 51, in Klang.

In 1990, Zaiton was involved in a tragic accident, at the height of her popularity.

The accident claimed the life of her 13-year-old son, Azirwan Abu Bakar and seriously injured Zaiton, putting her in a coma for three months.

She suffered emotional distress and memory loss caused by the trauma.

Besides singing, Zaiton earned extra cash through her Rendang Nasib business over the last three years.
