#SHOWBIZ: Will Céline Dion perform at the Olympics opening ceremony again?

KUALA LUMPUR: Will superstar Céline Dion make a comeback to the stage, by singing at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics Games this Friday?

According to a recent TMZ report, the 56-year-old could be earning a staggering US$2 million (RM9.34 million) if she took the job.

However, an official statement released by the Olympic Games confirmed that none of the artistes performing during the ceremonies will be paid.

It said: "The music artistes who will be appearing at the Paris 2024 Games Ceremonies will not be paid a fee for their services.

"Their decision to perform under these conditions reflects their desire to be part of a historic event for France, and for the world of sports."

Dion previously teased that her anticipated comeback would be in Paris, in a recent interview with Vogue France.

"I've chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again!

"I don't know… My body will tell me," she said.

If she turns up, this will be her first stage performance since she revealed her 17-year long battle with Stiff Person Syndrome in 2022.

Earlier this week, TMZ reported that Dion was mobbed by fans as she exited her hotel in the French capital.

She looked in great spirits as she smiled at the crowd.

Her heartbreaking documentary, 'I Am: Céline Dion', has been praised by critics after its release last month.

In 1996, Dion performed 'The Power of the Dream' at the opening ceremony of the Atlanta Olympic games in the USA, with the song written and produced specially for the occasion.
