KUALA LUMPUR: Taiwan-based Malaysian singer Penny Tai, who has been in the industry for 24 years, has a health condition that prevents her from making big movements on stage.
China Press reported recently that the 46-year-old singer who released a new album, Twin Flame, on Nov 11 also revealed that she had been suffering from vertigo for some time.
She said: "Although I'm a lot better now, I was soon hit with another health issue.
"Three years ago, I was diagnosed with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)."
According to the Mayo Clinic website, BPPV can cause brief but intense episodes of dizziness, triggered by specific changes in the head position, such as lying down, looking up or down, or turning over in bed.
"It is terrifying. I hardly dared to move, and even slept sitting up for a time," said Tai.
Her first episode occurred during the pandemic and lasted for five to six days. She sought medical help online.
Since then, Tai has experienced three more recurrences, each requiring her to see a specialist.
After treatment, she often feels dizzy for half a day, making it hard to walk.
Tai also discovered that her brother and sister suffer from the same condition.
Despite these challenges, the singer is excited about her return to Taipei Arena for a concert on March 22 next year.
"I want to be back on stage, but I know I need to build my mental strength and focus better.
"I've spent nine years performing at various events, which I believe have prepared me for this return to Taipei Arena."
Earlier this year, Tai performed at the Arena Of Stars in Resorts World Genting as part of her Drift World Tour 2024.
