KUALA LUMPUR: Singer-songwriter Firdhaus Farmizi, who rose to fame in 2020 with Mandarin ballad Gulf Of Alaska, has seen his career take a hit after he was caught in a cheating scandal.
8Days reported yesterday that Firdhaus, 25, had been dating fellow singer Diorlying for four years when they announced their break-up in October.
The news shocked fans as they were once the "golden couple" of Malaysia's Chinese music scene.
Diorlying's recent Instagram Stories seemed to suggest Firdhaus had cheated on her.
In response, Firdhaus issued a statement claiming he did not cheat, though he "has gotten to know someone new" after the break-up.
Firdhaus said he met the woman several years ago and they had worked together a few times in the past.
They met again during his Australia concert last month and got to know each other better.
He urged the public to stop making false accusations against them.
Firdhaus lost 25,000 Instagram followers in just two days — dropping from 619,000 to 594,000.
Chinese smartphone brand Vivo also cut ties with the singer, cancelling his appearance at its X200 series launch event last Tuesday.
Firdhaus, who was set to perform alongside his ex-girlfriend at the Different Ways Of Love concert here on Dec 15, has also reportedly been replaced.
Johor-born Firdhaus is one of Malaysia's most promising talents in the Chinese music scene.
Though he was raised in a Malay household, he attended Chinese schools since pre-school and is well-versed in Chinese.
In 2020, he made waves in China when Gulf Of Alaska went viral on Douyin and his duet with Diorlying, Divorce In Ghana, in 2023 further boosted his popularity.
