World's first Monopoly hotel to open in KL in 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will be home to the world’s first Monopoly hotel when the Monopoly Mansion by Sirocco opens its doors in the capital city in 2019.

The announcement was made yesterday by M101 Holdings Sdn Bhd (M101) and American multinational play and entertainment company Hasbro, which owns the world-famous board game license.

The five-star, 225-room hotel, which will feature the distinctive character of the Monopoly game and a 1920’s Gatsby feel, will be housed at the M101 Bukit Bintang, which is currently under construction.

The licensing agreement signing ceremony here between M101 and Hasbro was witnessed by Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz and Hasbro's managing director for South-East Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Jenny Chew Yean Nee.

In his speech, Nazri said that M101's strategic partnership with Hasbro will create a new lifestyle experience.

"Nowadays, choosing a hotel it is not only about a good night's sleep.

“Millennials are looking for a memorable experience influenced by ambience, architecture, panoramic views and objects. Other generations too, are placing increasing value on distant experiences and actively seeking them when travelling," he said.

Nazri added that the Monopoly Mansion will encourage visitors to Malaysia to not only lengthen their stay, but to make repeat visits.

Meanwhile, Chew said that in its 80-year history, the board game Monopoly has been played by more than one billion people in 114 countries around the world.

"Drawing upon this widespread popularity, we have delivered Monopoly experiences to fit every lifestyle including promotion, digital gaming, fashion and now a 5-star boutique hotel.

"We are proud to work with M101 to open the Monopoly Mansion by Sirocco in Kuala Lumpur, and we are excited for Monopoly fans in Malaysia and all over the world to experience the brand in a new way," she added.

Upon completion, the Monopoly Mansion will be managed and operated by M101's Sirocco Group.

The same group will also be managing the first in Asia Planet Hollywood Suites upon the completion of the M101 Skywheel, the company's third development. – BERNAMA
