10. MNR MEE GORENG

     Operated by Mohamad Noor Ahmad, 61, the place offers the basic Mee Goreng Mamak to customers who drop by a Chinese coffee shop known as City Rio Restaurant.

Its Mee Goreng Mamak is sold at RM5 without egg and RM6 with egg. Either way, one cannot go wrong. The dish is hot and spicy, and is a pleasant experience for customers.

9. RAHIM MEE GORENG

     Before climbing Penang Hill, poeple can enjoy this local dish for just RM3.50 without egg and RM4 with egg.

The shop is easy to find as it is located by the roadside, next to a bus stand. The dish is served hot on a banana leaf to give it that extra “oomph”.

8. MEE JALIL

     This outlet sells noodles from a small makeshift stall along the main road. At first glance, the Mee Goreng served here may look plain and dry, but the ingredients set it apart from the rest. It is not too spicy and not too salty. In other words, it is made just right at RM4 per plate.

The difficult part about this gastronomic experience is that the stall’s operating days are pretty unpredictable.

7. GHANI MEE GORENG

The business is run by Peer Mohamed Mohamed Ghani, 45, who took over from his father. For those who prefer a larger portion, look no further as the cook is generous with his servings at only RM5 a plate.

6. RASHEED MEE GORENG

     The aroma wafting from this stall is enough to lure customers. The stall is said to have been operating for more than 30 years and counting, despite the presence of other famous local foodstalls nearby.

The secret of its dish lies in the traditional way it is fried over charcoal fire. The food served is worth the money at RM5 a plate.

     The outlet’s main customers comprise those coming to the Jelutong market. Its Mee Goreng is sold for RM3.70 without egg and RM4.50 with egg.

The best part is that customers can make a request to suit their taste and the cook will do his best to satisfy them.

3. EDGECUMBE ROAD MEE GORENG

The shop’s “Mee Goreng Sotong” is the most sought-after dish, priced between RM4 and RM5 depending on add-ons.

2. MEE GORENG BANGKOK LANE

     This is the oldest Mee Goreng stall in the list having been in business even before our country gained independence. It was originally operating by the roadside, but, in the 1980s, it was relocated to a building nearby, providing a comfortable dining experience for customers.

During peak hours, it can be a frustrating half-an-hour wait to be served, but once the plate of noodles arrives, it is worth the wait. The dish is priced between RM4 and RM7 a plate.
