GMW to offer more green vehicles

GREAT Wall Motor (GWM) has announced its nine-in-three strategy for Malaysia, which is to roll out nine models within nine years as it sees the country as a key driving force in Asean's electric vehicle (EV) market.

The plan is to help consumers make the shift from internal combustion engine (ICE) to either a battery electric vehicle (BEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) or hybrid electric vehicle (HEV).

GWM is set on importing more new energy vehicles into the country and helping to strengthen the EV infrastructure through the right partnerships.

The company has reported positive response to its newly-introduced Ora Good Cat EV in the Asean region.

In Malaysia, the car was officially launched in November last year and has since won multiple automotive awards.

With a price tag of RM139,800 for the 400 Pro variant and RM169,000 for the 500 Ultra, they are among the most affordable EVs in the market currently.

The 400 Pro, with its lithium iron phosphate battery capacity of 47.8kWh, has an electric driving range of 400km.

Its battery life cycle is up to 3,000 charges. It can also charged from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in 32 minutes via DC fast charge and 40 minutes from zero to 80 per cent, or eight hours with an AC normal charger.

The more premium 500 Ultra variant has a battery capacity of 63.1kWh and an electric driving range of 500km from a single charge. It has five driving modes: Normal, Sport, Eco, Eco+ and Auto.

The Sport mode allows the car to complete the century sprint in 7.9 seconds. Its larger battery can be charged from 30 to 80 per cent in 40 minutes via DC charger and 60 minutes from zero 80 per cent, or 10 hours with an AC normal charger.

Both variants have a maximum power of 105kW, maximum torque of 210Nm and max speed of 152kph.

GWM also provides 24-hour roadside assistance via its appointed panel insurance companies as well as a spare parts warehouse in Shah Alam.

According to VFACTS data, GWM outperformed BMW and Tesla with a 36.2 per cent sales growth in Australia.

It has performed well in the European market with the Wey and Ora - the latter model winning the "Best Urban Electric Car" award in the United Kingdom.

The first batch of Wey Coffee 01 will be delivered to European consumers soon.

Available in only one engine setup, the plug-in hybrid Wey Coffee 01 comes with a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired to two electric motors.

It

has 483PS and can go from zero to 100kph in five seconds.

The onboard 40kWh battery gives a claimed all-electric range of 144km and has a fast charge on a 50kW DC rapid charger of zero to 80 per cent in 53 minutes.

Both Wey Coffee 01 and GWM Ora were said to have recently won the best-in-class award for 2022 by Euro NCAP.

In Brazil, the company was nominated for the "Best Auto Manufacturers 2022" award by AutoData, an automobile industry research institution, despite being a newcomer in the market.

It delivers a maximum output of 243PS and 530Nm of torque with a 130kW electric motor.

The Jolion sport utility vehicle (SUV) is also powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

It has a total output of 190PS and 375Nm of torque when combined with its integrated electric motor.
