Taylor's University terminates contract with Wawasan Sutera

KUALA LUMPUR: Taylor's University has terminated its contract with bus service provider, Wawasan Sutera effective today following an incident where a bus bearing the varsity's logo was used to ferry passengers to the red shirt rally yesterday.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, Taylor's reiterated that it did not authorise the service of the bus bearing its logo belonging to third party, Wawasan Sutera, to ferry rally-goers and the bus was not used to ferry its students to the rally.

"In view of this situation, the management has reviewed the contract with the bus operator and has decided to terminate it, in accordance to the terms and conditions of the contract, effective today," it said.

In compliance with the terms and conditions of the contract that require two-month notice, Taylor's said Wawasan Sutera bus services will continue to run according to the agreed schedule without disruption of services until Nov 16.

This, it said was to ensure that the decision to terminate the contract will not cause inconvenience to its students and staff who are reliant on this shuttle service.

Taylor's added that a new bus operator will commence its services on Nov 17

"Again, we wish to express our regret on the unintentional association of Taylor's University with this event."

An image of the red shirt rally participants getting off the bus was circulated on social networking sites which shocked netizens and students yesterday.

The incident drew flak from netizens who said it implied that the varsity's students were involved in the rally.

Concerned students of the university called on the management to terminate its contract with Wawasan Sutera for misusing the bus bearing Taylor's University logo.

To which, the varsity replied: "The bus itself is owned by Wawasan Sutera and not Taylor's University. So we're equally horrified at the unintentional association and unauthorised use of our brand in such manner.

"We're doing our best to prevent future unauthorised use like this in the future," it said.

Taylor's, had on Wednesday said the bus was used without their knowledge and that immediate action was taken to withdraw the use of the bus with the varsity's logo.
