Third rabies case reported in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Health Department have confirmed a third rabies case in the state.

Datuk Dr Zailan Adnan said a 65-year-old man in Balik Pulau was bitten by a stray dog on Friday.

"We managed to catch the dog and ran test on samples of the dog’s brain, which reveal that it has rabies," she told reporters at a press conference here today.

It was reported that Penang has been put on a rabies alert after two cases, one in Balik Pulau and another at Pokok Sena in mainland here, over the last week.

Zailan also added that the man bitten has been treated for his injuries and given a vaccine.
