SEPANG: The first batch of the special police team assigned to the crash site of MH17 in eastern Ukraine has returned to Malaysia.
A total of 27 officers comprising of members from the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) and VAT69 arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 6.30am today.
Present to welcome the team home was Royal Malaysian Police Management Department director Datuk Seri Muhamad Fuzi Harun.
He said the team that was led by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was tasked to look for evidence pertaining to the crash.
Fuzi added that the second batch of officers comprising of those from the forensic unit (11 officers) would return home this evening at approximately 5pm.
Flight MH17 was downed in eastern Ukraine on July 17 when it was en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam. It was believed that the plane was shot down by a missile and had claimed 298 lives on board which included the crew members.
