KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has called for a comprehensive investigation on the MRT construction site incident in Kota Damansara last night.
Najib via his Facebook account said he was saddened by the incident where three people were feared dead after a concrete span collapsed at 8.30pm.
“I am shocked and saddened to learn about the MRT site accident in Kota Damansara last night.
“A full investigation must be carried out immediately to ensure this never happens again.
“All parties involved in construction must adhere to the guidelines set by our Department of Occupational Safety and Health and strictly observe guidelines for public safety and health at construction sites,” he said on Facebook.
A 490-tonne and 38 metre length concrete span was collapsed after it was dislodged from its piers and fall on the ground below while construction for the parapet for the guide was being carried out.
MRT Corp confirmed three of its workers, all Bangladeshis known as Mohamad Faruk Khan, Mohammad Elahi Hossain and Mohammad Alauddin Mollik were trapped under the debris.
So far, rescuers at the incident site have located the body of one of the three victims.
