KUANTAN: It was a heart-wrenching scene at the site of an accident along Jalan Sungai Lembing here today when a 32-year-old man held the lifeless body of his elder sibling after tragically crashing into him several minutes earlier.
Azhar Husin, 32, from Kampung Melayu, Sungai Lembing here only knew the road accident victim was his brother Azhari Husin, 37, after noticing the latter's Yamaha LC motorcycle lying in the middle of the road.
The 2pm accident at Km23 Jalan Kuantan-Sungai Lembing near Jambatan Sungai Atong occured when Azhari who was trailing a Toyota Vios lost control of his machine and crashed into the rear before he was thrown into the opposite lane.
Azhar, who was travelling towards the town centre from Sungai Lembing on the opposite lane, then rammed his Perodua Myvi into Azhari and dragged the victim for several meters.
Pahang police acting public order and traffic chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Noor Yusof Ali said Azhari, a Kuantan Municipal Council employee, suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene.
He said initial investigations revealed Azhari from Kampung Jelihang, Sungai Lembing here was on his way home from town when he crashed into the Toyota Vios driven by a 26-year-old woman.
"Checks revealed that the motorcyclist and Perodua Myvi driver are siblings. We have recorded the statement from both the car drivers," he said.
Meanwhile a witness, only identified as Anuar, 25, said Azhar wept frantically after realising the accident victim was his own brother.
"Azhar immediately ran towards Azhari who was lying in the middle of the road after noticing his brother's motorcycle was the vehicle involved in the crash," he said.
