KUALA LUMPUR: A memorandum with resolutions to preserve peace, prosperity and harmony in the country was presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak here yesterday.
The 54-point resolution was compiled by the National Unity Coalition following a convention it held last Sunday.
Its chairman, Datuk Azih Muda, said the 100-page memorandum, among others, was a mandate to retain and fortify the Sedition Act 1948.
Najib announced the decision to retain the act in his policy speech at the opening of the 68th Umno General Assembly on Thursday.
“These are based on the coalition that came up with input and feedback from the National Unity Convention that was attended by some 415 non-governmental organisations.
“The NGOs represent about four million people and it is a comprehensive memorandum on their ideas and opinions.
“It is centred around Malay Bumiputera, Islamic issues and the monarchy, but at the same time, it also puts into perspective other views.”
Adviser to the coalition, Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad, who was present during the handover, said the document contained points that could be adopted as policies.
Other members of the delegation that met Najib were Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Shamsuddin, Datuk Mat Rabi Abu Samah and Datuk Abdullah Hussin, among others.
