NSC dismisses report of tropical storm Jangmi striking Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Security Council (NSC) today dismissed a social media post that tropical storm ‘Jangmi’ would make landfall and strike 90 per cent of Malaysia on Jan 3.

NSC secretary Datuk Mohamed Thajudeen Abdul Wahab said the message was not true at all.

He said the storm, which was now in Philippine waters, would weaken as it approached the Sulu Sea.

“The only thing that can happen is rough seas and rain in several areas, particularly in the east of the country.

“We checked with the Meteorological Department and they confirmed that the tropical storm was in the Philippines. But, in no way is it going to strike 90 per cent of Malaysia. It will weaken over the Sulu Sea,” he said. --BERNAMA
