KUALA LUMPUR: The controversial cartoonist Zunar is out on police bail after his arrest on Tuesday night.
Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zainol Samah said he was released at about 10.45am from Dang Wangi station lock up.
"He got out on police bail this morning, however details pertaining to his case are handled by the Federal police," he said.
Zunar's release was following his remand over alleged seditious tweets over Datuk Seri
Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy verdict.
Meanwhile, his lawyer, Melissa Sasidaran said the police were in the midst of wrapping up his case and would soon hand in the investigation paper to the Attorney-General's Chambers.
Outside the station, Zunar's wife and about eight others, believed to be friends were seen receiving him.
Last Tuesday, Zunar or Zulkiflee SM Anwar Ulhaque was picked up from his after being warned by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar that police would act against him for posting the seditious tweets.
Zunar was remanded the next day to facilitate investigation into his twitter comments on opposition leader Anwar's conviction and 5-year jail term for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
Zunar was investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948.
