118 cases given green light to bring minimum wage issue to court

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 118 cases have been given the permission to proceed with legal action against errant employers who had failed to adhere to the minimum wage regulation.

Deputy Human Resource Minister Datuk Ismail Abd Mutalib said from the period of Jan 1, 2014 to end of March 2015, 191 investigation papers had been opened against employers, and from that total, 118 had been given the green light to pursue with litigation.

“From that, 64 prosecutions have been settled in court, involving a total fine of RM211,600,” he told the Dewan Negara today.

Ismail was answering a question raised by Senator Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud on the number of employers that had been charged at courts for failing to implement the directive of minimum wage at the second day of Dewan Negara sitting.
