KUALA LUMPUR: More than 2,000 fans gathered at NU Sentral shopping centre concourse area today to meet their idol, South Korean popular actor Lee Min Ho.
He is in town at the launch event of his appointment as the ambassador of online shopping mall, 11street.
Lee appeared onstage at 6pm, much to his fans excitement, who had gathered as early as 8am to meet the 28-year-old talented artiste.
Lee arrived in Malaysia yesterday, where he was greeted by fans who gathered at the airport to catch a glimpse of the superstar.
"Hello, apa khabar (how are you)?" greeted Lee as soon as he appeared onstage, followed by rapturous cheer from his fans.
"It's good to be back. Although it's a short visit, I am happy to have the chance to meet all my fans again here," said Lee who has visited Malaysia several times on many occasions.
Besides Lee, local Chinese actress Emily Chan is also appointed as the ambassador for 11street.
The actor added that he would like to spend more time for sight seeing on his next visit here.
During the short 20- minute appearance, Lee took time to entertain his fans for a group photo. He also presented special gifts for lucky draw winners.
His presence was also greeted by fans from neighbouring countries who flew in especially to meet him in person.
Among them were fans from Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong as well as Brunei.
"I am glad that fans took their time to be with me today. I really appreciate it," said the Korean A-list superstar who launched his Istagram account three days ago.
Lee became the latest Korean celebrity to join the social networking service.
Almost immediately after he launched his account, @actorleeminho last Wednesday, fans flocked to follow his Instagram.
Lee continued to engage with his fans by posting two pictures on his Instagram account.
He now has 348,000 followers in just two days after it was set up.
"Because of the fake impersonators and accounts, I'm opening an account, too.
"This is the real MiNoMi. Fake impersonators, NoNoNo," he wrote in his Instagram account. MiNoMi is his long-time nickname.
Besides Instagram, the popular superstar has over 27 million followers on his China SNS service Weibo social media account, over 16 million on Facebook, and over 2.5 million on Twitter.
The actor and singer shot to stardom following his leading role in the South Korean phenomenal TV drama series, Boys Over Flowers in 2009.
He is also famed for his acting in other popular TV drama series, City Hunter in 2011 and The Heirs in 2013.
Lee added another feather to his cap recently by starring in Gangnam Blues, his first leading role on the silver screen.
