KUALA LUMPUR: Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona and Bollywood superstar Karisma Kapoor were swarmed by fans at NU Sentral Shopping Centre yesterday, where the stars made an appearance to launch a jewellery shop.
The shop, Boby & Maradona Gold Diamond Jewellery, marks its 37th outlet opening here (its first outlet in Southeast Asia). This marks Maradona’s latest business venture with Indian jeweller Boby Chemannur.
Also present at the event was Maradona’s business partner Boby, who is also Chemmanur International Jewellers chairman and managing director.
More than 1,000 fans packed the floors of NU Sentral Shopping Centre to catch the stars. At the event, the football superstar also displayed his cool dribbling moves and grooves at the Nu Sentral driveway.
In his speech, Boby said proceeds from sales of the jewellery at the outlet will be channelled to charity home in the country.
“Donations will only be made through sales of the jewellery and diamonds bought at the store,” he said, adding that he hoped Maradona’s involvement would help inspire others to do their part for charity.
He added that the jewellery store has other outlets in Unite Arab Emirates, Kuwait and many parts of India. Malaysia was picked at its latest outlet location because “Malaysians are known for their kindness and generosity”.
Maradona began his involvement as product ambassador for Boby Chemmanur International Group before being appointed as business partner.
