PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today witnessed the signing of six memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and several stakeholders.
The MoUs are between IRDA and Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (Malaysia) Bhd on investment promotions; IRDA, CMS Consortium Ecotour Sdn Bhd (Comos) and Medini Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd on smart mobility; IRDA, NEC Asia Pacific Pte Ltd and Applied Business Technologies (ABT) Sdn Bhd on public safety; Country Garden Pacific View Sdn Bhd, Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Celcome Axiata Bhd on smart city initiatives; and two Mous are on halal ecosystem development initiatives between IRDA, AsureQuality Ltd and Haltex Pte Ltd; and IRDA, Biltmore (M) Sdn Bhd and Haltex Pte Ltd.
Also present was Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin and IRDA chief executive officer Datuk Ismail Ibrahim.
Ismail said IRDA welcomed such commitments from these stakeholders and encouraged more companies that had interests investing in Iskandar Malaysia to work together towards achieving Iskandar Malaysia's vision to a strong and sustainable metropolis of international standing.
He said under Iskandar Malaysia's Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP, which had been enhanced, was anchored on wealth generation and wealth sharing that were balanced by optimal use of ecological assets towards developing Iskandar Malaysia.
"The CDP is very much in line with the emphasis on regional growth as announced in the 11th Malaysia Plan with Johor Baru being identified as one of the catalyst cities to spur the nation's economy.
"We are confident that Johor Baru being one of the flagships in Iskandar Malaysia will be able to fulfil this role based on the preparedness levels via our frameworks and blueprints that we have developed under the CDP," he added.
IRDA today also announced that Iskandar Malaysia had recorded total cumulative committed investments of RM172.51 billion from 2006 until June 2015.
Of this total, 50 per cent or RM87.80 billion represent investments that have been realised.
From January to June, Iskandar Malaysia had received total committed investment of RM14.38 billion.
