UPDATED: Five hurt, 11 arrested, after brother gatecrashes sister's date

KUALA LUMPUR: Police had picked up 11 suspects in connection with a brawl between two groups of youth at Wangsa Walk mall here earlier today.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said 11 youths aged between 15 and 29 believed to be involved in the incident.

"The brawl was not racially motivated as it was claimed as investigation revealed one of the group members had brought a 14-year-old girl, who is a sister to a member of the other group.

"The brother who was not satisfied had brought several of his friends to the mall to confront the man. The confrontation led to the fight," he said.

The brawl left five men injured, with injuries ranging from bruises, fractured shoulder and one was believed to sustain a broken neck.

"One of those injured had sustained a broken neck. He is still unconscious in hospital,” he said, adding that police had seized a metal rod and motorcycle helmet in the incident.

Police, said Roy, are in the midst of reviewing closed-circuit television cameras footage of the incident to identify more suspects.

Earlier report stated that three victims were injured.

Roy said police were notified of the incident by the mall's security guard at about 6.50pm and policemen were deployed to the scene.
