GEORGE TOWN: The haze continues to worsen in Penang with the state recording very unhealthy level this morning.
As at 8am, the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings on the mainland was 262 and on the island, 228.
This is the first time the haze has hit very unhealthy level since Penang was first affected last month.
Meanwhile, checks at the Penang Airport showed operations there was as usual this morning.
According to Penang International Airport senior manager Ariff Jaafar, no flights were either delayed, diverted or cancel as at 7.45am.
Visibility was at 500m.
All schools in Penang remain closed today.
Meanwhile in Kangar, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) postponed its classes and learning activities for today due to the worsening haze situation in Perlis.
It was learnt that all outdoors activities are prohibited while the university staffs were required to attend work as usual.
Checks showed that the air pollutant index (API) in Kangar, Perlis has reached 235, the highest recorded this year.
Besides Perlis, Kedah also recorded very unhealthy air quality level with Bakar Arang, Sungai Petani recording 237 API reading, followed by Langkawi (230) And Alor Star (218).
Following the deteriorating air quality, the Gotong Royong Mega programme to be carried out at SMK Taman Bersatu, Kuala Kedah on Oct 24 would be postponed to a date which would be announced later.
