KOTA KINABALU: Pictures showing decapitated bodies of children allegedly taken in the State capital have recently surfaced on Facebook, raising concern and fear among the local residents.
Four pictures, posted by user Radzlan Razz at 10.24pm on Nov 3, showed decapitated heads of three children and a headless body.
The post has since gone viral.
The account owner also made an announcement, claiming the bodies of “Filipino children aged between eight and 12” were discovered at Kampung Delima, Sepanggar and Sembulan.
However, city police chief Assistant Commissioner M Chandra today denied any such incident, adding the rumours were false.
“We view this very seriously as the statement has caused fear among the people. We will take stern action against individuals responsible in spreading the false information,” he said.
Police has lodged a report for investigation under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or maximum one-year imprisonment or both if convicted.
Chandra urged the owner of the Facebook account to come forward for his or her statement to be recorded.
He also advised the public to cooperate with police should they know the identity of the account owner.
