GOH V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong finally won their maiden Open title when the clinched the US Grand Prix today.
The men's doubles who have been struggling with consistency since last year, upset top seeds Vladimir Ivanov-Ivan Sozonov of Russia 21-14, 21-17 in just 27 minutes.
V Shem, when contacted said the win has definitely boosted their confidence as they continue to push hard to qualify for next year's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
At the moment it is a straight fight between the national duo and independent pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong.
The Malaysian duo who are ranked No 15 in the world, pocketed US$3,950 (RM17,131) in prize money, while Ivanov-Sozonov settled for US$1,900 (RM8,240).
V Shem-Wee Kiong will be playing at the Mexico City GP that starts on Tuesday, before taking a break for the year.
