GEORGETOWN: Lee Chong Wei got off to a brilliant start with a 21-14, 21-15 win over Indonesia's Fikri Ihsandi Hadmadi in the first round of the Malaysia Masters GP Gold today.
The Malaysian former world No 1 playing in his first tournament of the year needed only 33 minutes to see off his opponent at the SPICE Arena here in Penang.
Chong Wei, 34, will be in action again later tonight in the second round where he plays Thailand's Kantawat Leelavechabutr.
Also through to the next round of the men's singles is Soo Teck Zhi who defeated Indonesian qualifier Nathaniel Ernestan Sulistyo 21-13, 21-15.
