TM, Celcom sign infrastructure collaboration deals

KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd and Celcom Axiata Bhd today signed a series infrastructure collaboration deals today that will enable Celcom access to TM's high speed broadband infrastructure while TM will tap into Celcom's vast domestic roaming services for TM's mobile telecommunications subsidiary Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd (P1).

Under the landmark infrastructure collaboration for back-haul and HSSB access agreement, Celcom which already has the strongest 4G network in the country will accelerate the fiberisation rollout of its network with high bandwidth capacity.

This effectively allows Celcom to offer fixed broadband services to its customers under the Business-to-Customer and Business-to-Business segments, on top of its mobile offerings.

The other significant deal signed by Malaysian mobile giant Celcom with the country's telco giant TM is for the former to extend its mobile domestic roaming services to the TM Group's mobile subsidiary P1.

This will enable P1 to tap into Celcom's 4,200 LTE sites instantly without TM having to invest in such infrastructure from scratch to get P1 up and running.

P1 will offer it services sometime this year, and the company declined to be specific about the time frame for the upcoming launch of its mobile services.

The agreements were signed by Celcom's Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly, TM Group Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of P1 Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, and P1 Chief Executive Officer Puan Chan Cheong.
