KUALA LUMPUR: Football movie Ola Bola which opened on Jan 28 in 126 cinemas nationwide, has achieved RM8 million in gross box office collections after 13 days on the big screen.
In a statement today, both producer Astro Shaw and director Chiu Keng Guan expressed their delight to see that Malaysian viewers had flocked to the cinemas to watch the inspiring movie.
Ola Bola, a semi-fictional story, about the Malaysian football team’s success in qualifying for the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, has been a “hot topic” on social media such as Facebook and Twitter, where it was trending for six times.
In a recent interview, Chiu had said it was not merely about the success of our national football team in the yesteryears, but it was also about the spirit of 1Malaysia in sports and the values of discipline, comradeship and sacrifice for the glory of the nation.
At the centre of the story is the 20-member multi-ethnic football team which learns that it can truly achieve the impossible only if its members work together and stay focused on their goal of bringing glory to the nation.
The film has been widely praised by critics for its production values, cinematography and musical score.
