KEMAMAN: An electrical engineer, who is a Serbian national, injured his hands while repairing the engine of the container ship Zim Antwerp, while at sea.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency east coast region commander First Admiral Datuk Mamu Said Alee said that Babic Dijan sustained injuries to his fingers and hands.
The vessel, he said, was registered in Liberia and had a crew of 24 who were travelling from Singapore to Bangkok.
“We received a distress call at 10pm last night from the ship’s captain, when the vessel was 40 nautical miles off Kemaman, requesting for help to send his crewmen to hospital.
“We despatched KM Rentap to the ship’s aid and reached the vessel at 2.15am today. The victim was fetched and sent to Kemaman port before being sent to Kemaman Hospital,” he said.
Dijan is in stable condition, while the Zim Antwerp continued its voyage to Bangkok.
