PETALING JAYA: Boboiboy The Movie continues to make a huge impression with a cool RM14 million of box office takings after only 20 days in the cinemas.
Announcing this at Sri Pentas here today, director and creator Nizam Razak from Animonsta Studios said following the overwhelming response towards this RM5 million animated movie, a sequel is already in the pipeline.
“I am so proud of my team at Animonsta. Comprising 40 to 50 young talents and a small budget to work with, we’ve managed to come out with this animation flick. It took three years for us to work on Boboiboy The Movie. And I am more than happy with what we have achieved so far,” he said, adding that his will soon begin work on the sequel.
Released on March 3 and distributed by Primeworks Studios, although the movie is based on the successful TV series Boboiboy, it is not a continuation of the TV series. This full-feature animation sees Boboiboy and his friends on an adventure on a mysterious island that houses an ancient “Sfera Kuasa” with untold powers.
The movie will screen in Singapore and Brunei on April 13, and in Indonesia on April 16.
Primeworks Studios chief executive officer Ahmad Izham Omar said: “This is a big milestone for our local animation scene. It is also inspiring to see young talents like Nizam who is very passionate about his work.
“Usually, after a huge success, a filmmaker would reward himself by purchasing a luxury car, and be contented with that one success.
“I’m so proud to know that Nizam is already thinking ahead by coming out with the second instalment of Boboiboy,” he added.
