KUALA LUMPUR: Animated movie Boboiboy The Movie’s recent “killing” at the box office means a good demand for homegrown cartoons.
Stating this, KRU Studios executive producer Datuk Norman Abdul Halim said that it is also a testament to the importance of producers having a good marketing team.
Describing Boboiboy’s box office feat as very encouraging, he hopes to have similar response when KRU Studios comes out with animated movie Upin Ipin Jeng Jeng Jeng, a joint production with animation studio Les Copaque Productions.
“Boboiboy The Movie’s impressive climb in box office collections which has reached RM14 million today, has encouraged his company to step up its efforts to promote Upin Ipin Jeng Jeng Jeng when it arrives in cinemas around November.
“Boboiboy combines state-of-the-art 3D animation and good storytelling. It’s got a simple, yet exciting plot that combines science fiction and family values.
“As for Upin Ipin Jeng Jeng Jeng, it’s got similar ingredients, but focuses on twins Upin and Ipin who learn life’s lessons while going on adventures caused by situations beyond their control. Better still, the animated characters interact with a star-studded cast that includes Awie and Remy Ishak,” Norman told NST in an interview in Balai Berita here, today.
He said the animated movie which will be ready in June is not the only production his company will be unveiling this year.
“We’ll finally release the much-anticipated Cicakman animated series in the second half of the year, and it’ll feature our lizard-powered mutant hero saving the city of Metrofulus from more deadly villains,” he said.
KRU Studios will also produce Wheely, an animated movie which comes in both Malay and English. Directed by Yusry Abdul Halim and scheduled for a next year release, it is a “Fast & Furious for youngsters” and targets the children’s market.
