PUTRAJAYA: Former Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo will continue to serve his remaining two-month sentence outside prison until May 29.
In a statement today, Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim said Dr Khir’s parole would stand as long he complied with the terms and conditions stipulated by the Parole Board.
Dr Khir is bound by the Parole Order (Subsection 46H (3) Prisons Act 1995 (Act 537), which outlines 27 terms and conditions including reporting to a parole officer in the Klang district on specific times; residing at the same address as stated in the parole order and participating in rehabilitation programmes as ordered by the officer, Alwi said.
He said the ex-MB must not leave the district without permission and was not allowed to leave the country.
“Dr Khir was sentenced to 12-months imprisonment by the Shah Alam High Court under Section 165 of the Penal Code and began to serve his sentence on Sept 29 last year, which will end on Sept 29.
“He (Dr Khir) has obtained a four-month remittance by the Prison Department and will serve eight months of his sentence until May 29.
“Under the Malaysian prison system, a convict is eligible for remittance which is one third of his total sentence if the Prison Department is satisfied with the rehabilitation progress during his time in prison,” he said.
He added the board convened on Tuesday (March 29) to consider and approve the parole application by Dr Khir after serving six months in the Kajang Prison, Selangor.
