Beat the heat at Klang's sweet spot for 'ais kacang'

KLANG: Hundreds of Klang and Shah Alam folk have been flocking to a desserts and beverage stall at Emporium Makan here for decades, especially during the current hot and dry spell.

Operated by Lim Bee Guat and her husband, V. Silverajah, the Bobo Cha Cha stall sells ice kacang, leng chee kang, cendol and bubur cha cha at RM2 per bowl.

On how it was possible for them to sell their desserts at RM2 per bowl when other stalls were selling them for at least RM4, Lim, 54, said it was because of the stall’s low rental.

“Besides that, I want repeat customers. Many of them have patronised my stall for years,” she said while scooping cincau and red beans into a bowl to make ice kacang, better known as ABC.

Lim said her stall opened at 12.30pm daily and closed at 6pm. Her customers comprise students, office workers and families.

“Some of my customers first started coming here with their parents and now, they are bringing their children.”

During the weekends, she said, she could sell almost 150 bowls of desserts.

Lim’s father started the business in the 1970s to support his family of six. Back then, the stall was located near the old Capitol cinema in Jalan Nenas.

The ingredients for ice kacang, leng chee kang, cendol and bubur cha cha were from her mother’s recipes, she added.

“After my mother passed away in the 1980s, I helped my father to run the stall. When he died, I took over the business. All the desserts are made from simple ingredients.

“There is no need to be extravagant.

“My customers like them simple and that is how I serve them.”
