Thai's Rangsit University annuls exam due to high tech cheating

BANGKOK: A private higher institution of learning, Rangsit University, has annulled the results of admission tests to several of its faculties, due to cases of cheating using high technology gadgets.

The university, according to the local media, found cases of cheating in the admission tests for medicine, pharmacy and dentistry faculties, using smart watches and wireless hidden camera hidden in eyeglasses.

“The entrance exams held on Saturday and Sunday, had to be cancelled because of systematic cheating using electronic gadgets,” said Rangsit’s owner and rector Arthit Ourairat in his Facebook page.

Prospective students hoping to enter the medical faculty paid as much as 800,000 Baht (RM91,346) and were guaranteed to pass the exam or could get their money refunded, Arthit said.

He said that the university seized three smart watches from the students and decided to hold a new round of admission tests on May 31 and June 1.--BERNAMA
