KOTA KINABALU: Six-year-old Yusaidinnor Bakari's wish to fly in a helicopter came true this morning, thanks to the boys in blue at the Police Air Wing.
The Children's Wish Society (CWS) and Sabah police's cooperation saw
Yusaidinnor board the helicopter at the Terminal 2 near here for a joyride over Kota Kinabalu skies.
The boy was accompanied by his mother Maimunnah Ghani and Sabah deputy police commissioner Datuk Awang Sahari EM Hadzeer.
Yusaidinnor, from Kampung Sejati Semporna, was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a type of cancer that begins in the eyes, in January last year.
He underwent chemotherapy to remove his left eye and completed his therapy in June 2015. He relapsed last month and is currently undergoing a second round of chemotherapy at the Likas Hospital.
CWS Malaysia is a national charity dedicated to fulfilling the wishes of terminally ill children across the country.
Its vice president Teoh Teik Hoong said the society has fulfilled the wishes of more than 600 children suffering from chronic and terminal illness over the last eight years.
“We would like to personally thank Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar and Sabah Commissioner of Police Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun for speedily responding and extending their assistance to help us fulfill Yusaidinnor’s wish to fly.
“CWS would also like to thank the Promenade Hotel for putting Yusaidinnor and his mother up for the night at the hotel and making it a special experience for them."
