PEKAN: A Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) training aircraft crash in a paddy field in Nenasi, near here this afternoon.
The Aermacchi MB339CM aircraft was in the midst of a training flight when it encountered technical difficulties.
The two crewmen ejected to safety prior to the crash. However, one of them sustained a broken leg.
RMAF, in a brief statement, said the aircraft, based in the Kuantan airbase, had experienced technical difficulties mid-flight at 12.54pm.
“Both the crew members are reported to be safe after they deployed the ejection seats,” it said.
It said an investigations board will be formed to determine the cause of the incident.
The Aermacchi MB-339 is an Italian military trainer and light attack aircraft. RMAF currently operates 10 MB-339AM and 8 MB-339CM.
Meanwhile, a Pahang Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said it was alerted to the incident at 12.52pm. Eleven firemen were dispatched to scene.
