KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Football Association (Kafa) has signed up Brazilian footballer Wander Luiz Bitencourt, as a replacement for one of the import players whose contracts were terminated in the middle of the season.
Kafa president Tan Sri Annuar Musa said Kelantan head coach Emilov Velizar Popov had agreed to the signing of the 29-year-old player to strengthen the team's attack.
"He (Popov) has decided to tie up (a deal with) a midfielder who played in the Thai league last year, Wander Luiz Bitencourt...last year we tried to sign him but failed.
"I hope the player and Blazhe Ilijoski (another Kelantan import player) can form a good partnership, Luiz is already in Kota Baru for training with the team," he said on his Facebook entry.
Meanwhile, Kafa secretary-general Datuk Ismail Md Noor when contacted yesterday, confirmed the acquisition.
Previously, Kafa had terminated the contracts of two import players - Jonatan Lucca and Dramane Traore - citing inconsistent and unsatisfactory performance. --Bernama
