I recently received a notice from Pos Malaysia asking me to collect a document that it was unable to deliver to me as there was no one at home.
The card that was left behind stated that I should collect the document at the Jalan Sultan Post Office in Petaling Jaya within 15 days from June 21.
Imagine my consternation when I went to the said post office upon returning from outstation on June 27, only to be told that the document had been returned to the sender, although it was well within the grace period given.
The supervisor informed me that as the document was marked “KP”, Pos Malaysia would keep it for only one day, after which it would be returned to the sender.
I asked him if that were the case, why did the card state a grace period of 15 days, to which he replied it was “the postman’s mistake”.
In view of that “mistake”, I had to take time off from work on another day to go to the sender’s office across the city to collect my document.
I was informed by the sender that Pos Malaysia has a policy of not keeping certain documents for more than a day.
Why it has such a policy is unclear.
Pos Malaysia should advice postmen to make clear in the notification that letters marked “KP” are to be collected the following day, after which they would be returned to the sender.
Perhaps Pos Malaysia should also review its one-day policy for letters marked “KP” for the convenience of customers, who would otherwise have to travel from one end of the city to another to collect their letter.
