BCorp launches its maiden lottery in Vietnam

HO CHI MINH, Vietnam: Berjaya Gia Thinh Investment Technology Joint Stock Company (Berjaya GTI) today launches its lottery operation with the introduction of its first game, Mega 6/45 Lotto Jackpot Game.

Berjaya Corp Bhd chairman and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Robin Tan is hopeful the game, with a minimum VND12 billion jackpot, will excite a new generation of Vietnamese lottery players and create a more convenient lottery solution for existing players.

"Within the first month of operations, 800 point of sale terminals for Mega 6/45 ticket will be available throughout Ho Chi Minh City with some 10,000 point of sale terminals planned nationwide within the next five years," he said at the launch here.

Tan said BCorp was honoured to establish a business cooperation contract with Vietnam Computerised Lottery One Member Company Ltd (Vietlott), whose mission is in line with the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance's efforts to modernise the country's lottery industry.

"In line with Vietlott's objective, we hope that Mega 6/45 will bring more benefits and a better lottery experience to consumers, as well as generating significant revenues for Vietnamese government to improve the well-being of its people through healthcare, education and social welfare programme," he said.

"The reliability and integrity of a computerised lottery system will also assist the government in combating illegal lottery gaming operations," he added.

Incorporated in Labuan, Berjaya GTI is a Vietnamese company which is 51-per cent owned by Berjaya Lottery Vietnam Ltd (BLV).

BLV in turn is 80 per cent owned by BCorp and 20 per cent owned by its subsidiary, Berjaya Sports Toto Bhd (BToto).

On January 2016, the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment issued the Investment Registration Certificate to BCorp and Vietlott to certify an exclusive 18-year contract to invest and operate a nationwide computerised lottery.

The project worth about US$210.58 million is carried out by Berjaya GTI.

Vietlott is a 100 per cent state-owned enterprise under the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance and is the only enterprise permitted under Vietnamese law to conduct computerised lottery business throughout the nation.
