AMAR Baharin has many reasons to be happy lately. One of the reasons has to be the fact that the 31-year-old actor is engaged to actress Amyra Rosli, 25.
After keeping mum about their relationship, even to the extent of denying it, the pair finally made the announcement last month and got engaged less than a week later.
They have set Nov 11 as the date for their solemnisation ceremony, with a reception on Amyra’s side to be held the following day, and Amar’s side on Nov 19.
“Thankfully, the engagement ceremony went well as planned. We are very happy, and so are our fans,” says Amar of the engagement held on July 22.
At the ceremony held in Sunway Montana, Desa Melawati in Kuala Lumpur, Amar’s entourage presented five trays of engagement gifts including a ring. In return, Amyra’s side gifted him with seven.
Apparently, the merisik (a ceremony where the groom’s family checks on the availability of the potential partner) was carried out almost a year ago. It was kept confidential and the two decided to keep mum on the events until nearer to the engagement date.
“We didn’t want to jump the gun. Should our relationship falter, at least it would not embarrass both of us and our families,” says Amar, whose manager the past year has been none other than his future mother-in-law, Noor Zaridah Ahmad.
STRING OF ACTING PROJECTS
Noor Zaridah was quoted as saying that she never expected that Amar would end up being part of her family.
After a year of managing him, she found him very pleasant, both personally and professionally. Many had told her Amar would make a fine life partner for her daughter.
Amar and Amyra’s relationship started to bloom when they acted in drama series Suamiku Encik Sotong (aired on Astro Ria and Astro Maya HD last year).
Amar is down for a string of acting projects. The Kajang-born artiste began his action in front of the camera as a model, after which he participated in the reality TV programme Anak Wayang (Astro Ria) in 2009. Even though he didn’t win, it didn’t take long before acting offers started pouring in.
With seven years of acting experience, Amar is indeed one of the more recognisable faces in showbiz.
He has appeared in various drama series and telemovies, and starred in Tanda Putera, a historical movie directed by Datin Paduka Shuhaimi Baba. He played the role of veteran Malaysian politician Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who is also a member of the Kelantan Royal family.
Currently busy filming MIG Pictures’ 16-episode drama Si Kolot Suamiku (to be aired on Astro Ria 104 and Astro Ria HD 123) with Siti Elizad Sharifuddin, Amar is heading for the UK next month to shoot a 13-episode drama series titled Cinta Di Langit Cardiff with Amyra.
The drama series is a production of Ziela Jalil’s Pena Creative Pictures, slated to air on RTM later this year.
“We’ll be shooting in and around Cardiff in Wales as well as other locations like Manchester and London,” says Amar.
Besides being busy juggling work and wedding, Amar is also an entrepreneur, selling a range of jubah and modern kurta under the brand Amjifa Exclusive by Amar Baharin, and hair grooming products under the label Zoods.
A trend among many artistes these days, Amar says it was an opportunity which he decided not to let slip.
“Like it or not, we actors have a sell-by date. Before it expires, we need to think of our future income too,” says Amar.
“It warms my heart to see positive response from customers who are also my fans. If the products are good, they will go far and reach a bigger market,” he adds.
