Sarawak-Petronas impasse over, 7 steps to resolve woes, says Adenan

KUCHING: Sarawak government and Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) have reached an amicable solution to resolve the impasse over the moratorium slapped against the national oil giant.

Speaking at a press conference here today, Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem said Petronas has agreed to implement seven steps to address the issue, including appointing State Secretary Tan Sri Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani representing Sarawakian, as a member of the company's board of directors.

He said Sarawak-level subcommittee chaired by the state secretary would review and lift some of the new work permits application previously frozen on non-Sarawak Petronas workers.

"I had a meeting with Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) and Petronas chief executive officer Datuk Wan Zulkifli Wan Ariffin at the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya yesterday and we have reached an amicable agreement.

"We have agreed to appoint a Sarawakian as a member of the board of directors of Petronas and the state secretary will represent Sarawak.

"Other than that, 192 posts now vacant are to be advertised in the newspapers and to be filled by Sarawakians.

"Overall, I am happy with the agreement." said Adenan.
